Use the code PRIMEBOOKS17 on July 11th and 12th (TODAY and TOMORROW!) to save $5 on any order of $15 or more on any ONE physical book sold by Amazon.com (check the seller details to be sure – full terms here)! I did this last year for a rather splurgy book. Check out my list of my favorite books.

- Bouchon – Thomas Keller – bistro classics!
- Molly on the Range: Recipes and Stories from An Unlikely Life on a Farm – Molly Yeh – quirky delicious recipes with frank and funny prose.
- Breaking Breads: A New World of Israeli Baking–Flatbreads, Stuffed Breads, Challahs, Cookies, and the Legendary Chocolate Babka – Uri Scheft – glorious bread and pastry from the nicest chap in the business (I met him this year and dorked out. He was a gracious gentleman about it.)
- Made in India: Recipes from an Indian Family Kitchen – Meera Sodha – approachable and spicy with lovely family stories
- The Gefilte Manifesto: New Recipes for Old World Jewish Foods Hardcover – Jeffrey Yoskowitz and Liz Alpern – a celebration and rediscovery of Ashkenazi food. Great pickles, challah, veggies, and gefilte fish! I met (and again, nerded out over) Jeff Yoskowitz, he was very kind and generous with his knowledge.
- The Taste of Country Cooking: 30th Anniversary Edition – Edna Lewis – this one only just barely qualifies for this promotion as it is already discounted but if you have any interest in Southern food, local food, the farm to table movement, or just plain deliciousness, you should own this classic.
- The Food Lab: Better Home Cooking Through Science – J. Kenji López-Alt – a science-based approach to excellent food
- Burma Superstar: Addictive Recipes from the Crossroads of Southeast Asia Hardcover – Desmond Tan and Kate Leahy – I live near one of these restaurants. The coconut rice recipe alone is worth it.
Not cookbooks but very excellent books
- New American Haggadah Hardcover – Jonathan Safran Foer and Nathan Englander – gorgeous calligraphic art accompanying thoughtful translation and commentary
- Nexus of Global Jihad: Understanding Cooperation Among Terrorist Actors – Assaf Moghadam – He was my professor in graduate school. If you want to understand more about the threats this world faces and how terrorist organizations operate, this is the book for you.
